“If laughter is the best medicine, just had an overdosed of Vice Ganda featuring Ruffa Mae Quinto & Jon Avila live in Doha” said Tere, a good friend and a fellow attendee of the successful event last night. There were about 6,000 people who filled Dafna Ballroom arena of Sheraton Hotel.
Despite of raging intrigues before Vice Ganda’s visit, two sets of the concert were successfully held. Many local people disapproved and tried to stop his entry to the country. Few commentators of different blogging & news site even said that Qatar is not a place for homosexuals and such event is a disgrace to Muslim community especially that Ramadan is only few weeks away. However contrary to those reports, Vice Ganda was very pleased how Filipino people welcomed and embrace his event.
Like any shows Qatar produced by the same production company, it started by highlighting some local talents in this country. A girl began singing “Dakilang Bayan” and I was like am I watching a Linggo ng Wika celebration? I really don’t think that was the right way to open up the show. And there goes some few more local performances which literally failed and left the audience booing. Even the host was almost overthrown and ousted by the rants of the audience eagerly waiting for the main course of the night – Ruffa Mae Quinto, Jon Avila & Vice Ganda.
Not very long, Ruffa Mae Quinto graced the stage in a glittering dress. She said she knew that Qatar has a warm climate, so she decided to wear something sexy with these sparkling accessories. She sang some few songs, went down the stage and the laughter went all over the place. She talked to one Qatari guy and asked lots of funny questions. Even the security guy who put a chair on the stage was placed in a hot seat. She then invited one guy to the stage sang a song and even sat on the guy’s lap which really left the whole crowd pleased & laughing.

Jon Avila went next singing some few OPM songs and giving away lots of kisses to those girls who almost fainted when get closed to him. I thought this is the boring part, next to those failed opening acts. No wonder the audience stood up and went all over the place. I am not exaggerating but that certainly is true. I was really wondering why people are leaving their chair, went outside, had their pee break, & bought some foods. I thought something is up outside but there wasn’t. So maybe they were just not interested of him.

Unkabogable as he is, Vice Ganda finally showed himself on stage singing Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. The whole audience went alive when he showed his signature horse act. I could almost pee in my pants with his jokes. He is indeed spontaneous when it comes to making people laugh. Sure there are few lines which are scripted but his ability to ad-lib and talk lots of things is just Unkabogable. I am not a big fan of Vice Ganda but I like him more now after witnessing that event. There were some obscene and parental guidance scenes but thought it was fun still. Although his okray moments to some audience were funny, it could be a little harsh and offensive. But not anymore so long as the person involved is being a sport. The crowd went wild when he invited a hot guy on stage and did some really green moments. See for the photos yourself.

Thanks to Angel & Kuya Ernesto for this Vice Ganda treat. I really had a great time. Without them, I wouldn’t have a free pass to the concert. Thanks to Tere too for sharing those photos. That was indeed a night of laughter. Now I know why people love him. And since last night, I am officially a Vice Ganda fan.
