Qatar Railway System – one of the country’s most ambitious and expensive projects is sited to be completed two years before Qatar hosts the 2022 World Cup. An official stated that this Qatar Railway System should be open hopefully by 2020. This project proves another milestone and an evident that indeed, the economy of Qatar is booming.
The billion dollar project for developing Qatar Railway System is one big leap to open the country into high quality urban living. Today, means of transportation is a challenge for those who don’t own a personal car. Taxi & buses exclusively managed by Karwa is indeed troublesome and doesn’t offer anyone any comfort.
Press statements said: “We made a promise as a country and we are committed to providing an adjustment of railway for the 2022 World Cup, but in fact, the goal is non in 2022 but rather in 2020.”
“We must be ready and built in 2020, we should do testing, commissioning and have experience in service with the railways in Qatar, and will be considered by the FIFA committee,” he said in a commentary published by the Qatar daily Gulf Times on Friday.
Korea is slated to be the partner of Qatar for the railway system. Korean representative Mee said that he hopes the Korean expertise will help strengthen the 358 km railway line, 119 of them will be underground, more than 100 stations and trains capable of speeds up to 350 kmh. The Qatar railway system is going to be based from Korea’s Technology. Qatar may use the same LRT system to transport goods and people from Lusail to Doha.
As of April 2011, Qatar Railway Co. & Qatar Diar inked a contract worth of $42.5 with US Engineering Company, AECOM & Parsons to build a light rail system. This light Qatar railway system is in preparation of developing a new city named Lusail. The contract contains the structure of 30 km of track, stations, 24 reservoirs and facilities of a viaduct.
Dated July 24, 2011, the company behind the Qatar Railway System appointed a new CEO in the person of Saad Ahmed Al Mohannadi. This person is the one responsible for the energy development of the country. Before his new appointment, he serves as national director of Kahramaa, the sole water & electric provider of the country.
There is no doubt that the project is already in green signal. Everyone is surely hoping for the comfort that this Qatar Railway System is going to provide. This is definitely a positive output of Qatar Government. In less than ten years, a better transportation system is waiting for all expats & visitors in this country!
